The Nations Cup Show Jumping 2022
The Nations Cup is THE annual international show jumping competition not to be missed!
Created in 1909 and organized by the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) since 1930, this competition brings together the best riders in the world.
The 2022 program
The Nation Cup is played by national teams of four riders. The teams compete in CSIO-5* events around the world.
This year, the competition started in the Middle East, in Abu Dhabi, from January 19 to 23. The goal is to qualify the top two teams in the division to compete in the final in Barcelona.
The second, third and fourth rounds are played in Central and North America. Thus, after the stage of Coapexpan in Mexico comes San Juan Capistrano in California in May and Vancouver in Canada in early June.
This year, 10 countries will compete in the First Division, including Germany, Belgium, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Norway, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Sweden. The 10 legs of the 2022 Nations Cup are designed to screen the world’s best riders leading up to the final in Barcelona in October.
The FEI organizes other world-class competitions, including the highly regarded World Cup.
The course of the 2022 World Cup
There are sixteen qualifying events around the world. To see the beautiful sport close to home, the appointment was fixed for the inevitable stage of Bordeaux (33). Unfortunately, the health situation is not favorable for the Salon du Cheval de Bordeaux from February 3 to 6, so the event (and the competition) are cancelled.
On the European continent, there is still a stage from February 24 to 27 in Gothenburg (Sweden). After that, the international show jumping final will take place in 2022 in Leipzig (Germany) from April 6 to 10.
The Longines Champions Tour 2022
The 2022 season of the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) will begin in Doha from March 3 to 5, 2022. It will take riders and horses to 19 beautiful locations around the world. World’s most beautiful capitals such as Madrid, Paris, London, Rome, and Shanghai will host the best international riders for the qualifying rounds. The grand finale, the final stage of the competition, will be held in Prague in November.
The French stages
In France, the Ramatuelle – Saint-Tropez stage is one of the most splendid, combining luxury and performance in an idyllic setting. Also in France, don’t miss the Paris stage of the circuit. In June, the Jumping de Paris will host the sixth stage of this international show jumping competition, beneath the Eiffel Tower.
The unmissable international show jumping events in 2022
Away from the prestigious circuits, the international show jumping competitions in 2022 will also ensure the show.
French dates for international competitions
In France, the beautiful season rhymes with high level riding. This year, two cities on the West Coast will host the only two national CSIOs.
From May 5 to 8, 2022, the season gets off to a flying start with the Jumping International de La Baule. The seaside resort of the Côte d’Amour will host this year a CSIO5* and a CSI1*. Under the eye of the Rolex brand, 15 nations will compete in front of the ocean, under the sun of the Pays de la Loire.
Further north, in Brittany, the Jumping International de Dinard will welcome many of the world’s best riders from July 28 to 31. On Sunday, the Rolex Grand Prix of Dinard will bring together about fifty couples, on the beautiful grass arena of Val Porée.
The World Show Jumping Championships
This year 2022 also marks the return of the World Show Jumping Championships. Every four years, the competition rages to decide who will be the best rider or the best team, depending on the discipline.
This year, the competition will take place in Herning, Denmark, from August 6 to 14. During this week, the best riders will compete in Dressage and Para Dressage, Vaulting, and also in Show Jumping.
On the show jumping side, 40 nations will compete in individual and team events on the Stutteri Ask Stadium track. This year, the United States is challenging for the title again after their 2018 victory in Tryon. Sweden and Germany, second and third respectively, are strong competitors, formidable in the quest for victory.
In individual competition, Germany’s Simone Blum, winner of the 2018 edition, as well as the other riders on the podium Martin Fuchs and Steve Guerdat, are probably the most determined to bring home the gold.
Note that the FEI World Show Jumping Championships are qualifying for the next Olympic Games in Paris 2024!
Riders to watch in 2022
In the ranking, Peder Fredricson (Sweden), Martin Fuchs (Switzerland) and Daniel Deusser (Germany) respectively occupy the first three steps of the podium.
